Snow.... snow.... and even more snow?!

uff....that's what I call snow...

On the 27th I started my last "trip to the north" with my bike, because I won't be able (except if I buy a dog sled haha :D) go any further to the north... Of cource I will visit Hokkaidou... but only with the train...

Latest situation: A lot of snow... for my last trip from Tohoku-machi to Aomori (approx. 55km) I needed 6 1/2 hours... and I slipped more than I rode my bike... the snow at the street sides is as high as 2-3m and even on the street there is a 20cm layer of snow... it's horrible for biking... so to relax a bit I will stay here until the 2nd or 3rd of january befor heading south towards Okinawa *__*

I can't really tell about anything special... the winter stops me from doing a lot of cool stuff haha xD... my main aspects are on staying safe and healthy during this weather and going to Onsen... Today I might visit the Shinmachi in Aomori and on the 2nd (if the weather is okay) I might make a short visit to Hakodate

And as a last statement for this year:

It's amazing to see the snow on the mountain ranges... but don't even think of driving over them with your bike ~.~

Happy new year ;)

Norbert

Winter-wonderland and merry christmas

Wow... here in the north it is really hard to get your things together... I wanted to make a new post in ages but... well no time, no computer... it is as it is haha^^

At the moment I am in Hachinohe, but I will move towards Aomori on the 27. - and it is cold... f****ng cold, windy and a lot of snow too... so my plans are well...covered by snow?... I can't go over Mutsu as planned... because the roads are closed... so I will go directly to Aomori and give Hakodate a short visit... Sapporro only in February for the snow festival after taking a ship from Niigata.

There isn't a lot to talk about, because Sightseeing in winter isn't really great... of course there are a lot of scenic landscapes and nice people - as a side note - but at the moment I live a very chilled life with a lot of indoor activities like museums and markets (where you can get a lot of fresh and raw stuff... like raw sea cucumber or living squid... I can recommend it! ;D) and of course chilling with my hosts and celebrate the holidays... my poor liver :/... but that will change as soon as spring hits :D

So I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year and stuff ;)

Sendai - from the sea up to the mountains

Howdy hooo... I finally found some time working on my blog

As you probably already realized, I put a map with my travel route on the main page of my blog right here

Right now, I am in Sendai - and my plans for my sightseeing couldnt be any more chaotic.
On the first day, I covered the sightseeing spots in the city itself, like Aoba castle or the deity of mercy etc. (Pictures follow in a separate post)

Day 2 was completly reserved for the ocean. I visitied Matsushima - one of the three most scenic places in Japan - and yes. Its true *____* - The weather was great, so I could take a boat trip.

Info about Matsushima: It is a natural bay with a huge amount of small islands in it - smaller and bigger ones, habitat and inhabited ones. Really great

Day 3 - mountains! To be precise to Yamadera (Mountain temple) near Yamagata - wonderful view - red autumn leaves and snowy mountain tips... great

Everythink was really nice here in Sendai and I enjoyed my stay - tomorrow I move towards Morioka

PS: If you ever have the chance to eat sushi made by a real master.... DO IT!!! It tastes amazing

Once I was a teacher...

Haven't reported here for a very long time - sorry for that. My last month was really stressful. Monday to Friday and sometimes Saturdays I had to work at the school and teach kids and adults. And my respect to all English teachers who teach their whole life... for the next time I don't want to see any kids...

But enough of that! - Because of my schedule I wasn't really able to visit a lot of places, but Imade some pictures which I will upload as soon as I have a computer.

Today I go back on the road towards Sendai - the temperature is falling, so I covered me with winter cloths and sold my shorts at a secondhand shop.

Sadly, cold weather and rain means that biking is uncomfortable and camping a little bit chilly - that's why I want to cover the (expensive) winter as much as possible with CouchSurfing and hostels...I am really looking forward to the summer when I can camp at the beach ^__^

Still sunny greetings from Japan

Let's go to... Koriyama again?

Well, the week in Fukushima was over pretty early - with good food, nice weather and a brilliant bath at a mountain side :D

And now... well I wanted to go to Sendai and look for a job there but...

It came different!

Thanks to Bryan, the one who hosted me last week in Koriyama, was able to get me a job atthe English school he's working at. So now I have a one-month part time job as a English teacher here...the salary is amazing and until now I can even handle the kids...

For now I will stay in Koriyama until mid November and then go to Sendai, but only for a week. But now I will use my free weekends to discover nice places around here by train and bike

Until then.
